Poplar Class

My name is Miss Coupe and I will be teaching Poplar Class this year. We also have Mrs Priestley in our class this year who is our teaching assistant. On a Thursday morning Mrs Ogden will be teaching in Poplar Class. There will be lots of opportunities to learn new skills and grow our knowledge now we are in the juniors. In Poplar Class we will become a close nit learning family.

During the Spring Term, our topics include:

  • Stories on a theme

  • Poems on a theme

  • Discussion

  • Explanation

  • Ancient Britain - Stonehenge

  • Volcanoes and Earthquakes

  • Sound

  • Rocks

  • African Tunics

  • Dance (Rock and Roll)

  • OAA (outdoor adventurous activities)

  • Hindu Dharma

And much more!

PE

Our PE days are on a Monday and a Wednesday. Please send your child to school wearing their full PE uniform on these days. PE uniform comprises of yellow t-shirt, black shorts or black joggers/leggings (no logos) and school PE hoody. Trainers can be worn but pumps will be required for specific activities such as gymnastics and dance; you will be notified when these are needed. Please ensure earrings are removed or covered with plasters on PE days. Please remember that, for safety reasons, earrings must only be a single stud and not hooped or dangly.

Reading

Your child needs to bring their reading book and reading diary into school every day. Reading books will be checked and changed regularly to ensure your child has the opportunity to read daily at home. We love to hear how your child is progressing, so please comment regularly to let us know how they are getting on.

Multiplication Check

All Year Four children complete the National Multiplication Check in June and to assist children with this at home, all children have access to Times Tables Rock Stars.

Homework

Our Spring Term homework grid can be found on Class Dojo. Children can complete their homework in their homework books, which can then be photographed and uploaded to Class Dojo as evidence. Please remember homework books stay at home.

Snack

We encourage children to bring in a healthy snack for break time such as: fruit, veg, cheese or a savoury snack. Please remember we are a NO NUTS school. We have children and staff with severe allergies, therefore, please ensure all food products brought into school are no nuts and no traces of nuts.
