Elm Class

2024-25

Welcome to Elm Class!

My name is Mrs Baines and I am Elm Class Teacher. In Reception, we also have Mrs Mitchell, Mrs Mullender, Mrs Hastings and Miss Ibbotson who work with us. We are looking forward to our new Reception children joining us from September. Our first topic in September will be All About Me.

Please can our new families ensure they are checking Class Dojo regularly and sharing our transition videos with your child.

Our topic for spring term 1 is The Polar Regions. Throughout this unit, we will explore the unique characteristics of these areas and compare them to our own environment. The children will learn about the animals and people who inhabit these regions, discovering fascinating facts along the way.

As part of our learning journey, we will enjoy the classic story We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury. Inspired by this tale, the children will have the opportunity to create their own stories titled We're Going on a Polar Bear Hunt.

During spring term 2, our class will explore the topic of Change and Growth. We will study the life cycles of various animals and plants, providing the children with hands-on learning experiences.

As part of this unit, the children will have the opportunity to plant beans and observe their growth over time. This activity will help them understand the stages of a plant's life cycle.

Our PE days for spring are Thursdays and Fridays. Our school library day is a Friday.
