Rowan 2023 - 2024

Mr Fielding

Welcome to Rowan Class!

Both myself and Mrs. Tauber would like to warmly welcome you and your child to Rowan Class and Year 5. I would like to thank all the pupils in Rowan Class for their fantastic start to the year. It will be an extremely busy and fast-paced year with lots of new topics to cover. We really enjoy teaching our exciting learning topics and hope your children will be inspired!

At Royles Brook School, we cover a broad and balanced curriculum offering each child an exciting educational journey. Yearly curriculum overviews for each class can be found on the school’s website. In Rowan Class this term, we will be particularly focusing on writing an action narrative; place value, addition, subtraction, and angles in Maths and evolution and inheritance in Science. Miss Roylance will teach RE, and Spanish to Rowan Class for one session each week.

PE Days

Oak Class’s PE days are on a Tuesday and a Wednesday. Please send your child to school wearing their full PE uniform on these days.  PE uniform comprises of yellow t-shirt, black shorts or black jogger/leggings (no logos) and school PE hoody. Trainers can be worn but pumps will be required for specific activities such as gymnastics and dance; you will be notified when these are needed. Please ensure earrings are removed or covered with plasters on PE days. Please remember that, for safety reasons, earrings must only be a single stud and not hooped or dangly.

Reading

Your child needs to bring their reading book and reading diary into school every day. Reading books will be checked and changed regularly to ensure your child has the opportunity to read daily at home. We love to hear how your child is progressing, so please comment regularly to let us know how they are getting on. Our class novel this half term is Kensukes Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo.

Homework

It is great to get involved in your child’s learning and your contribution can be invaluable. In addition to reading regularly with your child, please support them in their weekly homework activities. Homework will be set on TT Rock Stars/Numbots (Times Tables and Number Bonds); Phonics and Spellings; reading activities and topic-based studies. Access to Google Classroom will soon be organised. This has proven to be an excellent platform for remote learning. Your child has been issued with a homework exercise book in which their homework can be recorded before being photographed and uploaded into the Google Classroom. This book is to be kept at home. Any further homework this half term will be based around our topics.

Snacks and Drinks

We like to help our children to choose healthy eating options, extending to snacks and drinks.

Pupils in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 are encouraged to bring in a piece of fruit, veg, cheese or a savoury snack for breaktime.

We are a strictly NO NUTs or NUT TRACE PRODUCTS school as we have a number of pupils and staff with severe nut allergies so please check packages before they are sent in.

Good hydration is essential for good health and good concentration. Your child should bring in their named school water bottle each day. Replacement bottles can be purchased from the school office for a fee of £1.50, bottle lids 20p. Cash in named envelopes via the class teacher please. Water is preferred but diluted low sugar cordials are also acceptable. Highly coloured or fizzy drinks are NOT allowed.

If you have a question or query, however big or small, please do not hesitate to contact me on my email [email protected] and I will respond to you as soon as possible. For any urgent queries, please ring the school office.  Myself and Mrs. Tauber are looking forward to your child’s learning journey this year in Rowan Class and we will strive to help them maximise their potential.

Please ensure that you are checking in on our Google Classroom page and Facebook page to see what the children have been up to.

Kind regards,

Mr. A Fielding
